Want a career that makes an impact, but don’t know where to begin? Our Careers in Sustainable Development course, which is offered in partnership with the University of Richmond and UNC Charlotte, is designed to help you get started.
The Careers in Sustainable Development course equips you with a unique toolkit that will enable you to understand the evolving landscape of job opportunities in the purpose-driven sector. Then learn how to improve your personal brand, network and identify job opportunities. You’ll also be provided with application and job interviewing techniques that’ll help you secure your dream job in impact.
If you’re already working in a sustainable development job this course can also help you to accelerate your career progress.
This course is included in the program fee of all our internship abroad programs.
This course is for anyone who’s interested in accelerating their path to a sustainable development career. Anyone from high school students who are only considering a career in conservation to established professionals working in corporate sustainability are welcome to join the program.

Start by learning about the sectors that are included under the umbrella term of “sustainable development”. These include: conservation roles such as marine biologist and wildlife biologist, corporate roles such as diversity and inclusion director and sustainability manager, roles in public health such as environmental health professional and occupational health nurse, roles in research such as climate research associate, environmental economist or health economist, and even roles in engineering such as renewable energy engineer.
Then you’ll learn the basics of personal branding. Find out how to create an appealing online profile on platforms such as Linkedin, and learn how to craft a resume that will land you an interview.
You might have heard that the most successful job hunters network. But you avoid doing it because it seems intimidating. It really doesn’t have to be. We’ll show you just how easy networking can be, even if you aren’t comfortable meeting new people face-to-face. You’ll learn how to network with the specific purpose of creating opportunities for roles you’d love, at organisations you’d love to work with.
Finally, learn techniques for submitting an impressive application. We’ll also provide you with interview techniques that you can use when speaking to an employer offering you your dream role.
